The semi-finals series for Taree Basketball’s Summer League were played last week and now the stage is set for the finals to be played starting on Monday, 27 March2023.

The results from the semi-finals produced some upsets and very close finishes in what was a very good presentation of domestic basketball in the lead up to the finals of the ‘Summer League’ to be played this week at Iron Arena in Taree.

The U18 semi-finals played on Monday, 20 March 2023 saw West Side Ballers defeat Cruisers 57 to 38 to book a final berth against The Squirrels who gained their place on a forfeit from Tornadoes.

The West Side Ballers and The Squirrels hit the court on Monday, 27 March 2023 at 4.00pm in what should be a hard-fought battle for the title.

This game will be followed by the U16 final at 5.00pm between Airheads and Midget Mafia, who both scored 43 points in their respective semi-final wins.

Airheads 43 to 35 over the Wolves while Midget Mafia and Brick Bros went basket for basket in a thrilling contest which found Midget Mafia in front at the final siren 43 to 42.

The BW final has Wingnuts up against The Team in the 6.00pm timeslot on Tuesday.

Wingnuts produced an upset in their semi-final to defeat the reigning champions, CWA, 38 to 24 and their finals opponent The Team produced a very good semi-final win over Johnson and Mongan 48 to 26 in a game where their opponents had plenty of scoring opportunities but the ball just wouldn’t drop into the basket.

Huskies and BBB will line up at 7.00pm Tuesday for the AW final which on performance should be won by Huskies but BBB are showing good form at the right end of the competition.

If semi-final results are any indication of a final favourite, Huskies should take that honour with a big win over Upbound 60 to 31, while BBB had a much tougher semi-final contest to grab their final spot battling hard all game to record the win 35-32 over Ratz.

The game at 8.00pm on Tuesday is the AM final between Ugly Men and Railway Switchers.

The semi-final between Wizards and Ugly Men was an exciting one which saw Wizards, the competition frontrunners finishing strongly only to have the clock beat them following a very good upset effort from Ugly Men, which saw them claim the victory 42 to 39.

Railway Switchers were too strong for MSM Huskies in the other semi-final to take the victory 48 to 31 and on that basis appear better placed to claim the major prizes in the final clash against Ugly Men.

The Thursday finals have the 14’s, CM and BM titles up for grabs. Old Bar Greeners and Bananas in the 14’s will start proceedings at 5.30pm, followed by Old Bar Mermans and No Love at 6.30pm for supremacy in the CM division with Aussie Green Klean and Shooterz to take the court at 7.30pm to start the race to the full-time siren for the BM bragging rights.

The non-competitive Friday afternoon Super 10’s and Super 12’s along with the ‘Aussie Hoops’ program will also finish their activities on Friday, 31 March 2023.
