Summer League hits Prime Time.

Posted on 16 March 2023

The finals series for Taree Basketball’s Summer League will be played at Iron Arena over the next two weeks with the semi-finals for the U18’s to be played on Monday afternoon followed by the A Men and Women and B Women on Tuesday night with the U14’s, U16’s, B and C Men to take place on Thursday afternoon/night.

The semi-finals format will see first on the competition ladder up against fourth and second to play third with the winners advancing to the finals the following week and the defeated teams to be eliminated.

The non-competitive Friday afternoon Super 10’s and Super 12’s along with the ‘Aussie Hoops’ program will all continue through March and wrap up on Friday, 31 March 2023.

It was originally communicated to the competing teams that the Summer League Finals and Family Fun Day would be conducted on Sunday, 23 April 2023 but it was considered necessary to remove that event from the calendar for two reasons. One, the four-week time gap between the playing of the semi-finals and the finals provided no continuity at the end of the Summer League and two, the Winter League is coming and planning for that event needs to take priority over a Summer League Finals and Family Fun Day late in April.

On the topic of the Winter League, it will commence late April/early May and Taree Basketball is determined to gain greater benefit from the GameDay facility to improve the quality of the information provided to our members under the Fixtures/Results tab of our website.

There are other things that also need improvement and they are the number of forfeits occurring closely followed by teams who fail to complete their duty responsibilities and games played with less than two referees.

The competitions are conducted by Taree Basketball but really it is players in the teams involved that make it work by committing to weekly participation, completing allocated bench duty and putting their hands up to be included on the referee roster.

Changes will be made in an effort to improve the overall quality and management of our competitions and a few things on the table for discussion are a team nomination fee, minimum team player numbers before nomination is accepted, A grade men’s teams supplying the name of one person on their team list to be included on the referee roster and prepaid game fees whether that be monthly, per school term or for the entire duration of the competition.

Stay tuned for future updates on the progress towards the Winter League tip off.
